The Magicians´ House (22 future condemned vestals) The vestal virgins were a group of priestesses in ancient times who had to keep the Sacred Fire of the goddess Vesta alive, divinity who took care of the house and the domestic environment. Their main duty was to see to it that the fire of the family hearth was never extinguished. While vestals who fulfilled their duties were treated with the greatest admiration, those who broke their vows were cruelly punished. Public flogging, stoning, beheading, and burial were some of the punishments they were subjected to for breaking their vow of chastity. In more than a thousand years, there are references to only 22 vestals being punished. It could be deduced that the terror of such punishment is what prevented the vast majority of priestesses from breaking their vows. As society evolved, this Sacred Fire became synonymous with family and unity, a symbolism that lasts to this day. Today, women are still exposed to this Sacred Fire in the public eye. The media dictate the rules and social networks become forums in which both public and anonymous women are judged for not taking care of this symbol of self-control. “La casa de las magas” speaks of 22 condemned future vestals.
