Painting in an abstract style is a deliberate effort to step back from realistic representations, while at the same time not stepping away from reality itself. My best paintings are captured in spontaneous moments when I can free myself of restraints imposed by over-thinking and self-judgment. It's in constructing, then deconstructing what I see or feel that I aim to fill the spaces between emotion, reality, and memory with color and texture.
