About The Artwork

For years Kristjana has collected books on Japanese woodcuts and silk printing. Everything about the method and style appeals to Kristjana. The graceful graphical sensibilities as well as their personal features and moods. In Kristjana's eyes, no one does landscapes better than the old Japanese woodcutters. The intricacy of carving in the old pieces are considered miracles of sculpture. In 1853 four USA ships steamed into the harbour of Uraga and forced Japan to open up their ancient guarded country to the rigour of international trade with hated foreigners. After various internal struggles the Japanese decided to adopt western technology to compete, so the traditional woodcutting and silk printing got replaced by never western methods. The Yellow Mountain - Japanese Woodcut Exploration is a series of Kristjana's Japanese landscape studies. To create this stunning piece of art, Kristjana she builds a collage with her reworked Japanese woodcut mountains and traditional victorian engravings. This wall art piece is a part of a trio of prints complementing each other when hung together. The other two pieces are The Floral Branch Landscape - Japanese Woodcut Exploration & The Red Butterfly Mountain - Japanese Woodcut Exploration. Printed in the artist's studio in London, using the highest quality archival paper (Matt Smooth Fine Art Cotton 300gsm) and highest quality inks (giclée), to ensure you are able to enjoy your print for years to come. Edition of 45, signed and numbered by the artist. Kristjana’s prints are sold through many sales channels and some of them sell fast. Therefore we can not guarantee that the next edition is the one you will receive if you buy this print. If you would like to know what the next available edition number is, please contact Saatchi Art customer service before placing your order. Your artwork will be printed and shipped within 3-5 working days. It will arrive safely in a hard cardboard tube.
