About The Artwork

Total edition of 24, sub-edition of 2 for size (50" x 40") and material (canvas). This is a fine art reproduction (matte canvas print) of my original painting, "Underwater". I created this painting in spring of 2021 while in Santa Barbara. All my prints are Giclée prints. (Archival prints on fine art papers using pigment-based inks.) The layering technique I use in my oil & cold wax paintings comes through beautifully in this canvas print on Fredrix Sunset Matte Canvas. The texture of the canvas mimics the beautiful texture I achieve working in wax. I offer a total of 24 numbered prints of my original painting “Underwater”. These 24 prints are split between fine art paper prints and fine art matte canvas prints. Your print will come with a certificate of authenticity including its number in the edition. Additional sizes available in the edition: (4) 40" x 32", and (6) 30" x 24". Please enquire via email: jen@jencrowestudio.com. Canvas Prints - All canvas prints are printed on Sunset by Fredrix - Matte Canvas. It’s easy to work with for stretching, mounting and framing, and is ideal for fine art and photographic reproductions on canvas. It is acid-free, pH neutral and has a poly-cotton base. The canvas has a matte finish and has been varnished to protect the surface. Canvas prints come un-stretched, and you will need to work with a local framer to have your print stretched. The prints have a 2.75” mirror image border that has a smoked (darkened) finish. Your print will look beautiful whether you decide to frame it. It can be stretched on bars up to 2” deep. Your print will be expertly wrapped and protected for shipping. Small prints will ship in a flat mailer, but most prints will arrive rolled and wrapped in boxes. You can watch a video of me unboxing a paper print https://www.jencrowestudio.com/print-unboxing Please note: The original oil & cold wax painting is available through Brumfield Gallery in Astoria, OR.

My work is heavily focused on process. I embrace the history of creation showing through in the final work. I work with a balance of intuition and planning. I’m inspired by natural textures and aging man-made structures. Time spent hiking refuels me for my studio practice and often directs me towards color palettes used in my work. My experiences traveling abroad and throughout the western U.S. also influence my work in the form of visual and physical textures, color, and shape. I work in oil & cold wax on cradled wood panels. I do not use brushes to create my work. I paint with squeegees, brayers and by applying paint to papers which is then transferred onto the panel. My paintings are comprised of dozens and dozens of layers of oil paint and cold wax. I often scratch back into the layers with tools and palette knives revealing the layers below. My goal is for the viewer to explore emotion and immerse themselves in an abstract way of thinking. I use layered history and visual texture to create something with visual weight and depth. This allows the viewer to ground themselves in an abstract work where they can then allow the mind to see what they need. I believe abstract work to be incredibly inclusive in this divisive time. I hope that everyone can feel connected to the sense of history in my work. The aspects of decay, fluidity and depth in my work help create a universality of time and place for the viewer to connect with.
