This was done during my training at Heatherley's School of Fine Art, London. It is the first one of a two-part series (see Untitled (Monoprint series 1B). 'Monoprint' is another word for 'monotype', which means that it is a work of art created using a printing technique, but unlike most prints it is a one-of-a-kind piece. The inspiration of this work was cellular biology and the pulse of life which courses through all of us. This work is already mounted on archival mountboard.

My work changes and moves constantly, which is a reflection of my international background, my constant travels, and my personal quest. Born in New York City, I grew up in Asia, in cultures where both worship and meditation are an integral part of everyday life. This constant sense of the sacred permeates my work, which explores the themes of evolution, transformation, and transmutation. I have practised vipassana meditation for over twenty years and it is central to my vision as an artist. That meditative state of mind is the starting point of creation for me, and I let it through by allowing the colours to present themselves, the figures to emerge, the forms to find their way into existence, and subconscious and deeply hidden elements of the psyche to come to light through the suggestion of the paint. My work is an exercise in process. I work with a great range of painting, drawing, and printmaking media, and with a background in painting and paper restoration, my work often involves fine detail. Much of my artistic schooling has been in traditional technique, but I am interested in applying those techniques to create something personal. It is the mood of the artwork which interests me above all else, and different techniques can contribute to that as much as the theme. My work is in private collections worldwide: in England, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Greece, South Africa, Australia, and the USA (New York, California, and Texas).
