Printmaking: Stencil, Acrylic on Paper.
Pattern, painted on 200 grams paper, the work is built using a stencil/pochoir printing technique, where a single 14 x 14 cm tile is repeated and changing its position.
Making solid and clear blocks of colour, interacting with each other.
Each print is unique although repeatable.
The work is inspired in parts by the patterns of portuguese azulejos inspired by the Islamic tile works.
And also inspired by the " Art Deco" movements and wonderful pattern works which were produced in that time.
Simple geometrical shape paralleling each other create a harmonious composition..
I am very much attracted to contrast of a strong colour against the white sheet of paper, the grafiks of such compositions speaks to me.
Empty versus Fullness.
Then the addition of small pieces together to construct an image, like building a building, brick by brick.
This way of construction besides being visual is also full of musicality. The pure repetition produces a visual acoustic.
The work has a border.
