About The Artwork
In 1981 working in Kengi Nanao's college printmaking studio I was inspired to create works that I believed to be intellectually worthwhile. I was inspired by the beauty of my model. I worked with pure hues and combinations of hues to interpret and draw attention to her natural beauty. I was also interested in interpretation of the limits of human sensual perception. By freezing a moment in my models emotional stream and then enhancing that moment, I hoped to illustrate what lies beyond our ability to perceive i.e. by capturing a moment that would simply pass and be forgotten in our normal stream of awareness.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
