In a world that makes less and less sense, I ask, What Logic? is applied? a handprinted aquatint etching; this means that I have drawn the image, through a varnish, onto a copper plate, I then immerse the copper plate in acid, and the acid "bites" into the copper where I have removed the varnish. When the plate is done, and this takes a while, as most copper plates go in the acid several times, with me adding more detail and aquatint (gives dark tones) I ink the copper plate up for each print I make, you can only print once per inking. Once the ink and paper has dried I sign, title and number each print. As etchings are real hands on printmaking, printmakers are allowed to call their prints original prints, and etchings are very collectible. A great way to start an art collection! Aquatint is a technique where deep tones can be achieved on an etching, it involves rosin, that gets melted onto the copperplate with the help of a burner. Find my printmaking movies on Youtube, just search under my name, you can see me make and print an etching. I print "What Logic" in a short edition of only 60 prints, each print is numbered and signed by me. Please note you might not receive the number in the photograph. The etching is printed on a piece of warm white heavy printmaking paper, perfect for the image, the paper measures 10 x 14" (25 x 35 cm) and the actual images measures 6" x 9" (16 cm x 23 cm) I'll mail your etching carefully wrapped from my studio in Denmark, with many years experience in packing so it arrives safely. Thanks for visiting, come back soon! Mariann

Almost 20 years a full time printmaker and I am as much in love as the day I pulled my first print! My presses have moved with me, from Borneo to Singapore, from Singapore to Spain, and now on to Denmark, where I have set up my studio and gallery. I am self taught, a book, a way to thick copper plate and a gallon drum of nitric acid, making every mistake you could, and learning, learning as I went along. I started with etchings and added linocut when we moved to Singapore. Here I also taught printmaking at Singapore Tyler Print Institue, picking up and learning from the master printmakers there. I never want to be too "old" to learn, to challenge myself, to do better! My inspiration comes from a variety of sources, I have no single line of work, but prefer to make images as they come into my head, through books, I love to read, through radio, music and a huge part, from my daily dogwalks, that not only provide inspiration from nature but also moments of contemplation that results in many of my prints! All my prints are printed on best quality printmaking papers (favorites are Magnani, Fabriano, and Hahnemuelhe) with Charbonnel etching inks.
