About The Artwork

I spent many years in my youth poring over books filled with images of traditional Japanese woodblock prints and sumi-e ink wash paintings. The balanced representation of tranquil beauty and authentic emotions captured in both types of work still remain embedded into my consciousness as sources for inspiration. In "Woman Under a Tree", two different subjects are portrayed in dramatically different ways that are often found in traditional Japanese art depicted separately. I chose to draw the woman using thin, delicate lines minimally outlining her features. The tree, clearly old but mighty, becomes a prominent part of the picture - but the drama truly happens in the dynamic between the tree and the woman - between the loud and expressive, and the delicate and quiet. Art is mounted to archival mat board (removable) and comes with the artist's signed Certificate of Authenticity. Size indicated is the size of the image; the paper and mat board are larger. Also available framed (additional shipping charges apply). Framed size: 26 inches wide, 22.5 inches tall, 0.75 inches deep.

My work explores how language expressed through visual and tactile forms interacts with consciousness over the entire spectrum of subtle to cosmic proportions, thus embodying timeless and unlimited potential to create sustenance, advancement, and metamorphosis.
