The octopus - one of the world's most intriguing underwater creatures, captured here by the stroke of a brush and blending of colours as if the octopus is changing its hue in front of our eyes. We are becoming aware that the octopus possess's an intelligence far beyond what we imagined and expresses emotions and personality through the changing of its shape, colour and actions. Informed by West Coast nature, organic forms, water, mountains, often wild landscapes and a parallel study of human machinations, Paula's work is commentary on human condition and conditioning in found environment. Pieces are created as physical experience; works hang, swing, drape, become object, or result is in traditional form. Her work is rooted in exploration, inquiry and curiosity and evolves from flat surface to three dimension or performance dependent on concept and context.
