In 1962 radio-technician Kjell Stensson told the Swedish nation it could see color. As part of an April fool’s joke, almost 10 years before the Swedish Broadcasting Agency would officially introduce colored television, Stensson had Swedish viewers believing they could see technicolor after dressing their television in a nylon sock to create a rasterised optical illusion of hues. Noting, each individual at home would need to find the optimal distance from the television in order to achieve the proper alignment of the overlay. This piece, “users are responsible for constantly adhering to their self-defined interventions”, is a piece belonging to a three part series of small monotype prints. The image of daffodils was borrowed from the original broadcast, displayed as test shots for audience members to supposedly test their nylon dressing on. The artist has intervened on the images in order to create the illusion of color, printing them using sublimation onto a felt surface. The title of the image is in reference to the paper "Is life brighter when your phone is not? The efficacy of a grayscale smartphone intervention addressing digital well-being" (Dekker, C. A., & Baumgartner, S. E.,2023).
