With this work I intend to establish aesthetic links between mesoamerican art, modern abstract painting -in its geometric aspect- and color field painting. This piece is part of a series inspired on the Josef's Albers lithographs named "Graphic Tectonics" that was based on many of the most known mesoamerican monuments: Monte Albán, Mitla, Uxmal, Cichén-Itzá, Tenayuca and Teotihuacán.

My name is Valentina Olmedo, I am a painter, architect and teacher of painting and drawing at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City. My artwork is focused on painting, drawing and design, disciplines in which I deal with architectural themes that go from landscape to abstraction. Since 2016 I have been developing the concepts "pictorial architectures" and "sculptural paintings" which combines painting, graphic resources, geometry and trompe l'oeil on irregular formats that often have reliefs and openings. My paintings also result of my training as an architect, in the sense they resemble architectonic models and the way I represent forms and spaces. In addition, I take many elements from the ancient and contemporary architecture.
