About The Artwork
This object is an exact replica of my skateboard I saved from 1970 when I was twelve years of age. The bees may represent the anxiety I felt leaving childhood and facing the artificial and constricting stereotypes ahead of me. All parts of this object are painstakingly - yet lovingly - constructed or carved without casting. Consequently, I find each ball bearing, bolt, and wing charged with specific energy reflecting this period of time and combining together to form a flesh tone matrix of female adolescent comprehension. This sculpture hangs at eye level from the ceiling on a leather cord.
