2 Masks (Pollux and Castor) Sculpture

These are bronze casts of pieces of expanded polystyrene / Styrofoam packaging that I collected a number of years ago. I immediately saw faces in these inanimate objects and really fell in love with them. The work is both fun and conceptual: the decision to cast these objects (usually destined for the trash can) in bronze stimulates discussion about value and the nature of art. As with all masks, something is concealed here - these are not what they appear to be. The names Pollux and Castor playfully refer to the words 'polystyrene' and 'cast'. They are also stars named after the twin gods of Greek and Roman mythology who hatched from a single egg (just as the original pieces emerged from a single box). 2 Masks (Pollux and Castor) is sold as a single sculptural art work. The bronze version is an Edition of 5. The dimensions of each 'mask' is 37.8cm (H) x 30.5cm (W) x 7.5cm (D) and they weigh around 6.7 kg each. These are made to be wall mounted and can be adjusted to sit flush or float away from the wall.
