Wooden boxes by flattening of each cube or box I am almost dismantling the cube but it still exists. In using, again, the mathematical equations the cube transforms into different shapes, triangles, rectangles, crosses, pyramid and in the pattern of openness the boxes spin into a circle. By standing one side of each of the first twenty one inner boxes a protection barrier is formed, representing the growth years from childhood to adulthood. We are then released into adulthood and freedom with no barriers. The layering creates another question as only a percentage of each box is visible. It could be representational of the slight memories we hold from years past. It’s hard to distinguish where one box i.e. years, starts and finishes as it travels through the centre pyramid. Likewise both the artist and the viewer may question how much further the piece has to go. The inner cuts of the wood have more precision than the outer cuts, as we grow older physically things become harder. When we look down on to the piece from the top it raises the question , much the same as the missing corners of the glass cube, are we being drawn into the piece or being pushed away. All 41 boxes close into each.
