About The Artwork

This concept was one of the originals in the "Symbiosis" concept group evolution. It is a study of dynamic possibility with a simple subject of two connected entities. The form consists of an interplay between these two parts which make a whole possessing harmony. In the "Symbiosis" forms I am exploring themes such as non-duality, the human mind and perception. My work is influenced by these themes in subtle ways. I also get inspiration from watching our physiological world around us. Bipod No.5 in Black Walnut is from a piece of wood near the outside of the tree. The lighter sapwood and darker heartwood form the duotone seen. I roughed it out green and then shaped and smoothed it after it dried. I make the forms to possess a subtle balance which requires attention to how the contours work together and influence the whole form. Making the contours and curves smooth to the touch and the eye is an important part of the concept. By holding it in the hands, the viewer can engage in the tactile experience of the piece as well. I hope this form may add a sense of mystery and tranquility where it is placed. It's fluid shape can add interest and dynamics to a special spot. I think these forms carry a sense of traditional refinement and will contribute to the quality of the interior.
