Sculptors design their work like painters design their works of art. Composition is a large part of work as in paintings. Painters however, have a few tricks, which have been developed through the ages regarding space; That is the discovery of perspective, which has transformed painting and allows the artist a sense of movement. Now the viewer is tricked into thinking he is actually seeing and moving around inside the canvas almost as an animation (in current vernacular). Sculptors do not use illusions. Sculptors urge the viewer to move around the work of art to get a full sense of its breadth and scope. It is this use of angles which gives the viewer a real perspective. The viewer is putting the dots together. Meaning, the viewer mentally assembles the different views to create a total impression of the work of art. And since the viewer must find the distance from the sculpture as well as the angle of view which touches them, the mathematical possibilities are staggering. Sculptors generally have one favorite point of view. The favored angle relates the part of the story, which he probably relates the most to. It is this point of view which he considers the most telling or aesthetic.
