Pedro J Rodríguez was born in Atios, in northwestern Spain, in 1980. He grew up in this small town surrounded by vineyards and granite stone, because in this village there are the pink granite Rosa Porriño quarries; this stone material defines the architecture and rural landscape of the area. Throughout his life Pedro felt the need to express his emotions through art, initially with painting. His place of origin marked his studies, specializing in the work of granite, and where he discovered his artistic skills with stone and how he could express himself through it. With the passage of time, he focused his career on sculpture complemented by painting and drawing, moving from a realistic style to an abstract and primitive one to express his ideas about society and its environment. Pedro's source of inspiration for working on stone material is the landscapes of his childhood, where granite shows its inner strength and is integrated into nature and other materials such as iron. Doing all the work in an artisanal way, thanks to his training and with a good command of the technique, Pedro lets the stone speak with his inner strength, which he makes known through the iron he assembles in his work, which is worked combining a traditional and industrial process, where the time factor and rainwater for the final coloration are decisive. Pedro's work connects with the viewer and encourages him to think about what he sees, at the same time inviting him to interact with it, invading his physical space in many of his pieces. A sculptor whom he admires and who studies, to mark his differences, is Chillida, for his work with iron and its integration into the medium, as well as its interaction with the viewer. Currently Pedro thinks and designs part of his work in an urban environment but connected with nature by the sea and the mountains, such as Badalona, and makes his work in granite and wrought iron in his native town in the middle of the countryside; This combination gives a particular stamp to his work, fitting in with nature, but also in industrial and urban environments.
