Colin Justin Wan is a multi-media artist from Singapore where he has been raised to obey rules and to believe that his compliance will lead to success and happiness. He earned a BBA from the National University of Singapore and received a scholarship to complete his MFA in filmmaking from the University of New Orleans. He is a self-taught sculptor. He started playing with clay out of curiosity. After making countless functional vessels, he experimented with his pottery making processes and inserted narrative in his ceramic works, creating sculptures and art installations. He enjoys the challenge of exploring new material that fit the narrative of his works. He weaves his narrative by cross-stitching the stories he came across with the emotions he experienced. His works usually reflect imperfect, outcast characters who are victims of societal norms and living in the expectations of others.  As an artist, Colin believes we should make our own rules with no apologies.
