Big Bowl & Scoop Sculpture

Big Bowl was created from a 55 lb. burl of an estimated 150 year old mesquite tree. Unfortunately, the tree was diseased and had to be removed. But, it lives on in this piece and many others. I did a study to determine the best use for the burl. The large burl had a smaller burl attached to the side. I determined a large bowl and a scoop could be created by removing the smaller burl. A bracket to hang the scoop was formed from the burl material. The piece was sanded to 2000 grit and finished with natural oil. The piece was created for display, and hopefully, to find a moment to enjoy the natural beauty of wood. It would make a great party conversation piece and also be a great vessel for condiments.
