Sculpture: Ceramic, Clay on Ceramic.
This sculpture interprets a classical fruit bowl as often depicted in still lives. It is made out of ceramic and uses the technique of black and white porcelain sgrafitto. The concept was to interpret the type of glass bowls manufactured in America during the depression and reverse the colors into a deep black, to express the shine and the luster yet trick the eye into the unexpected finish. The pears featured are sometimes cut up so as to reveal the inside of the fruit, the hidden but nonetheless known aspect of the subject matter.
