About The Artwork

My work is content-driven and often deals with violence and war, and I use materials associated with violence. In this case Vietnam-era trip wire spools and wire are used to create a POP-like slice of cake. The "icing" includes gunpowder. These remaindered materials are transformed into an aesthetic object, a far cry from their original use.The piece is from a series "Let Them Eat Cake" series which references taxes spent and a war economy. With a nod to pop artist Wayne Thiebaud, but highly politically charged, these works make economic commentary. I would hope the viewer contemplates these issues and connections when viewing my work.
