Sculpture: Ink, Enamel, Acrylic, Paint on Wood, Plastic.
This artwork is part of the series "Drawings in 3 Dimensions." The series is an outgrowth of an ongoing sketch journal with drawings in black and white that are defined by repetitive mark-making. They give rise to sculptural works that hover between drawing and sculpture. Each "Drawing in 3D" begins with the making of marks which are subsequently codified into a sort of visual law, then broken apart and reconstructed as a three-dimensional object. The resulting compositions alternate between organic shapes like those found in agate stones and geometric forms that evoke the irregular rhythm of stalactites and stalagmites. The addition of the third dimension includes the addition of a third color, gold. More about this series can be found at nataleadgnot.com/drawingsin3d.
