About The Artwork

When working on a box project, I was setting the inside elements down as each was finished. I began to notice an interesting pattern forming and it reminded me of Mondrian work with geometric shapes. I found that attaching them together created an interesting box continuum. When completed it also reminded me of an arial view of city streets. The boxes are made of mahogany and all are 2 inches deep. They are connected with small pieces of African padauk and all are finished with a hand rubbed oil. It easily hangs on a wall with three small nails for support. You can either fill the spaces with cherished items, or you can simply leave it empty. This as with most of my work is one of a kind.

I am a sculptor, woodworker, photographer, raised in Rochester, New York and currently living and working in Prescott, Arizona. My path has taken me in many directions. Years ago I was seriously wounded in Viet Nam. The injuries were many but more importantly I lost much of the use of my left (primary) hand and the sight of one eye. This event forced me to adapt and focus more keenly on my surroundings, my direction, and defining who I am as a person. I received a degree in Studio Art at SUNY Brockport and while there, I studied sculpture and furniture design with renowned sculptors, Wendell Castle and Albert Paley. At that time I also began my photographic experience and realized I had a knack in all media for looking beyond the big picture and focusing on life's minute details. I received a Masters Degree in Art Education from Nazareth College and I worked as an art teacher both in NY and Arizona for close to 25 years. Through my work and my teaching I've tried to convey an appreciation of the joys of life, whether through art or the simple act of helping others. Artistically my path has taken me in many directions. Creating photography and furniture with a focus on the sculptural beauty in both, I continue to get closer and to see what others might not.
