The cotton sleeveless shirt has been and still is a very popular garment all over the world. When worn, it becomes, unwittingly, a work of art, which I "fix" by transforming the cloth into bronze.

Foreword I don't like talking much about me, and I prefer to let my works speak for themselves. I define myself as a “sensory translator” and I believe that art and beauty always coincide. I sculpted animals, women, athletes, spheres and much more, because I don't like to repeat myself. Each of my works features a meaningful stance. I always was an independent artist. I never wanted to be bound to any galleries and I lived off my work thanks to the appreciation of individual clients. My name is Pietro De Tommaso. I was born in 1947 in the beautiful and ancient land of Calabria, but I grew in Friuli, in Northern Italy. I live and work in Udine, a hundred kilometers from Venice, a hundred from the beginning of Northern Europe, and thirty from the border with Eastern Europe. I studied aviation and I achieved the qualification as a middle school teacher. I was a teacher for twelve years, and then I left that safe job in order to live exclusively off my work as an artist. At the beginning of my career as an artist I painted, I sculpted, and I dedicated myself to cinema and experimental theater, too, as a teacher in a school that I opened in my city. Since the beginning of the 1990s, sculpture has prevailed over all other passions. I know all materials, and I know how to work with them: plaster and wood, plexiglass and resin. At the end of that decade, I built on my own a small art foundry in my studio, and I began working with bronze. As I wrote in the foreword, I always wanted to remain free; therefore, in the early 2000s I opened for a few years an art gallery in the center of the city of Udine, solely for my own works. As the experimenter that I am, currently I'm working on the transformation of cloth into bronze, by means of a technique that I devised. My works can be found in many private collections in Italy and abroad, even in Australia and Santo Domingo.
