About The Artwork

I designed and fabricated my first butterfly sculpture initially as an homage for parents whom had lost their daughter. The piece signified a monarch butterfly program their daughter, Jennifer, implemented in the seventh grade science curriculum she taught. After loosing Jennifer, her parents created a butterfly garden at a beautiful county park in Southwest Iowa, and the original butterfly sculpture invites park visitors to enjoy the grounds. Over the years I have made changes to the initial design, and created several more butterfly sculptures for patrons- all with a central theme on love and celebration of life. The metaphor of the butterfly is one of growth, beauty, and love of one another and nature. Your butterfly sculpture is one of a kind, and hand cut and finished from mild steel. The finish as a bronze coating that will patina to a turquoise vertigre over time.

"My purpose in life is to help others see, feel, & heal through art". Welded Sculpture is Woodford’s passion. Her work is a dialog with organic flow, movement and scale. Woodford grew up on the East Coast in Southern Maryland, but has called the Midwest home for many years. She travels between South Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Dallas, and Arizona where she creates, has representation, or teaches. Traveling enables me to teach, be of service to others and broaden my views." The figurative series she creates depicts her thinking on current as well as historical matters and her perceptions from a female viewpoint. The work is inherently autobiographical while also leaving space for the viewer's interpretative dialog. Woodford's goal is to create healing sculptures that embody a sense of hope. "We are all connected. We are all the same, and could see each other as mirrors but for the smoke in-between.”
