About The Artwork

The rare wood used in this lovely landscape piece is called 'Ziricote' and only grows in three places in the world, Guatemala, Belize and Southern Mexico. Ziricote is a member of the Rosewood family and has unmistakable smokey pattern with bright gold sap wood as a wonderful contrast. This piece was finished in 2018, but has been in progress since 2016. J Vint mounted the wood on the frame, then found himself in contemplation as to the direction for completion of the piece. Then one day he came into the studio with the idea to try a gray shadow underneath to create the illusion of a floating effect, and an illusion it is of course as all the materials are flush in typical J Vint fashion.

Enjoy a visceral connection with real wood and bring a unique appreciation of nature into your space. J. Vint is the founder of an original and unique type of wood mixed media, archived with the Smithsonian Institute (Art of Wood) chronicles of art and culture in the Los Angeles Art Scene. The process begins as an assemblage and transforms from sculpture to painting. J. carefully chooses each cut of wood with many species indigenous to North America and some are exotic. Some works have a scientific / naturalist feel of dendrochronology, while others portray stretching landscapes with waterfall corners. --------------------------------------------- An important part of J's philosophical approach to his work is that trees are the archival reporters of our world, for they transcribe everything. Within each slice of wood is a history of survival, the natural drama of the forest, the cycle of life. Trees are the greatest benefactors of all living things and perhaps the finest example of reciprocity, for they breathe out, so that we might breathe in. __________________________________________ In recognition and celebration of all things wood, 5% of the sale of each J. Vint piece will be donated towards certified tree planting foundations. An authentic certificate will be provided for the new owner / sponsor.
