I had a train track and I thought it would make the perfect pedestal for the train, and using part of the train for the train itself was an intricate part of the piece! Making the train out of recycled parts was a lot of fun and allowed me to use up many parts that I had saved over the years in my studio! I have a special affection for trains as I fell asleep to the sounds of their whistles at night from the tracks not far from our house as a boy, which somehow added to the pleasure of the process.

Peter McFarlane is an award winning artist, based on Salt Spring Island, whose work is in public and private collections nationally and internationally. Over his career he has worked in a wide variety of mediums particularly in the re-purposing of used objects. What connects all of his work is the re-contextualizing of obsolete everyday objects to create personal philosophies which he hopes will resonate with the viewer on a visceral and/or intellectual level and open up the possibility of a new conceptual experience. He believes waste is just a lack of imagination. He relies on long hours, landfill, personal experience, history, metal recycling and serendipity to make his art. Nationality is Canadian
