The chess set is inspired by the theme of the Venetian Carnival and its every detail is imbued with a spirit of refinement. The set was made by hands from porcelain, so modeling took about two years. The artist had been working for decades in the field of ceramics and is well recognized in professional circles. For centuries, Venice has been a place where the east and west met. This cultural dialogue is reflected in the work through the intermixing of European and Eastern aesthetic languages. Like the interaction of players during a chess game, the interaction between two cultures is clearly seen in the work. Thus, the stylistic approach is a metaphor of the functional purpose of a chess set. The Venetian carnival has its own unique flavor, with which no other festival can be compared. For ten days, the squares and streets, canals and bridges of this unique city turn into a huge stage, on which a fascinating spectacle unfolds. The artist transforms the playing field into a scene where a similarly enchanting game unfolds. One aspect of the carnival has especially inspired the artist. It is the spirit of freedom, which is a consequence of the anonymity inherent in masks. Thus, masks create an aura of mystery that is artfully reflected by the author in the material. Clothing of the figures is the author's interpretation of the historical costume, which is depicted without excessive detail, but with the preservation of the identity of the style. Of particular interest are the rooks, because their design reflects various, but interrelated styles: from Gothic to Moorish architecture. The playing field is lined with turquoise tiles, creating an impression of crystal clear water and reminding us of the Venetian lagoon on which the carnival action takes place. The set includes 32 figures. The table is made of decked marine wood. It is encrusted with wrought iron. The table size is 90 × 90 × 40 cm.
