ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Vintage spice tin, billiard ball, forks, hose connectors, toggle anchor, doll eyes, doll hair, apple corer, steamer leaves, costume jewelry, and pins. Chickira was born in Columbia and moved to Martha’s Vineyard at age 9. She made her stage debut at age 13 at The Hot Tin Roof, and quickly achieved a huge following on the Cape and Islands. Her first international hit “Underneath Your Feathers” earned her praise worldwide for her musical versatility. Her fame and success were solidified by her multi-platinum hits “Chicks Don’t Lie”, “Rooster in This Town”, “Poem to a Chicken”, and “Chick Like Me”. Despite her international fame, Chickira is a regular at the Ag Fair, graciously allowing fans to pose for pictures with her. A lover of the arts, she is a frequent guest at Artists’ Receptions at The Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown, as well as Galaxy Gallery and Featherstone in Oak Bluffs. A little-known fact is that she is the younger sister of Cluck Norris, the Martial Arts Champion and star of numerous action films, including “Roosters of Innocence”, “Top Rooster”, “Delta Force 2; The Rooster Connection”, “Coop of Silence”, as well as many others.

David Joseph is an artist, physician, engineer and inventor who lives on Martha’s Vineyard and in Naples, Florida. As an artist, David’s primary media are found object art and photography. An avid international traveler, he has visited over 120 countries on all seven continents, all 50 states, and over 250 UNESCO world heritage sites, each destination an opportunity to photograph nature, wildlife, and portraits. Unable to travel during Covid, David saw the potential to create art from the mundanity around him. He began to create found object sculptures made of old or used common household items, toys, and sports equipment. Each whimsical, thought-provoking piece displays the balanced composition of a trained artist and the skilled construction of an engineer.
