Art Description

Sculpture: Clay, Latex, Plastic, Wood on Plastic, Other.

A broken found hula hoop was repurposed in this sculpture - it now forms a circle with two openings, which hold dry birch branches. The circle was covered with shredded fabric ribbons, then wet clay was adhered to it. It dried and cracked, and I healed the cracks with coagulating latex, sculpting latex by hand, adding bit by bit slowly, week by week. A few months later, it is fully dry, and yet not rigid as it is built of many independent segments. It is a structure that slightly changes its shape, depending on whether it is suspended ( as shown in the picture) - becomes an oval - or lies flat - forms a perfect circle. Hand formed latex creates some truly beautiful texture. It hangs on a heavy-duty picture hook from a secure wire loop built in the back of the sculpture.

The openings in the sculpture are meaningful: what goes in, goes out. And vice versa, of course. Love is an open vessel.

This particular artwork is not for sale but please feel free to commission your own Circle of Love. It takes at least two months for drying so please be patient. The price is $1800 plus shipping.
