Sculpture: Interactive, Found Objects, Environmental, Metal, Steel on Iron, Steel.
Exploring themes of toys and play led the artist to mask making with discarded scrap metal. The mask is traditionally worn by the shaman or special character. In Indonesian culture the real mask is our ordinary social character, in which many elements are repressed; a mask enables those repressed elements to find expression so that the true self emerges, with a healing function. Thus, the shaman possesses masks. This is the modern mask of the urban metalscape. A subtle reply to Picasso's exoticised appropriation of African masks and inspiration in the form of cubism, these masks evoke postmodern global subcultures.
