Sculpture: Textile and Glass on Glass and Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric).
Many years ago I was fortunate enough to find several 5 ”x 2” x .5” curved glass beads in two-tone (clear/color) cane glass. Their triangular cross sections and graceful arcs meant that any jewelry design had to be as clean and minimal.
In my book arts and jewelry work, I often use saddle-grade waxed polyester cord from a family-operated supplier in Maine. It looks like linen without the variation in width, comes in every color I need, and wears like iron.
For ‘Cobalt Arc’, I used black polyester cording, hand-braided in a double loop that can be adjusted from 15” to 22” necklines. I matched the clear and deep cobalt blue glass of the curved tube, with cobalt/clear/copper glass accent beads, and cobalt blue ‘crow’ beads as sliders.
My signature beaded tassels finish off this striking neckpiece.
Whether it’s worn at a music festival, club, gallery opening, or as an everyday statement piece, I hope you will enjoy ‘Cobalt Arc’ as I enjoyed making it.
