The artist tries to return wood residues, such as wood shavings and sawdust, back to their original form, the tree, by modeling from a self-produced wood pulp, the individual annual rings, as in a tree from the core starting alternating with artist acrylic paints to the outside. As with a tree that grows, she thus starts from the core inside and models the individual annual rings of the "tree" to the outside. This is an intensive process, as each layer involves a long drying time. Narrow, colored annual rings and wide annual rings of wood paste, reflect the seasons of winter and summer. The cross-section of this sculpture shows the individual layers elaborately modeled on and is reminiscent of a tree slice, with the lifelines of a tree. Only when the desired thickness is reached, the final shape is carved out and taken away from what was previously modeled on. The stele was placed on a steel base. In this stele, as the name suggests, the colors were chosen at random. A total of 23 layers (color layers 11 / wood pulp layers 12). All works of the artist are unique.

« Art helps me to express myself when words are missing. It is my retreat and helps me to be with myself, to lose myself in my own world. » Sandra Brugger (*1986) lives and works in Pettneu am Arlberg and Nesselgarten near Fliess in Tyrol (Austria). In 2013, she graduated in sculpture from the College for Arts and Crafts and Design in Elbigenalp (Tyrol). In the same year, she set up her own business as a freelance artist. Brugger has taken part in 15 (inter)national sculpture symposia and her works have been exhibited nationally as well as in the USA, Germany and Italy. The subjects and themes in Brugger's works are wide-ranging and range from abstract forms to nature and people. In addition to sustainability, she also weaves socio-critical themes into her works. Brugger often models her objects from a wood paste she has developed herself, which she painstakingly produces from wood shavings and sawdust. Her unmistakable works are usually created from this basic material. Either layer by layer, alternating with acrylic paints or in combination with other materials. Working with wood paste is an intensive process, as each layer involves a long drying time. Her works are mostly made from wood paste, but also from wood, concrete and stone.
