Coral Sculpture

Coral was ignited by the impactful 2016 documentary "Chasing Coral," which served as the catalyst for my ambitious installation project. In my endeavor, I endeavored to recreate a bleached coral reef using the discarded remnants generated within our close-knit community. With unwavering dedication, I transformed recycled plastics, styrofoam, plastic bags, paper, and any salvaged materials into a grand and immersive installation. Commencing with the fabrication of barnacles crafted from recycled gift tissue paper and my initial attempts at sea urchins and anemones, my artistic pursuit gradually evolved and flourished. Over time, I skillfully fashioned both vibrant and bleached coral formations, intricately detailed sea urchins, and delicate spores. My intention is for the viewer to be captivated by the sculpture itself, beholding the meticulous craftsmanship and inherent beauty of each constituent piece. Moreover, I aspire to instill a sense of consciousness regarding our consumption habits and foster a desire to effectuate small yet meaningful changes in our approach to waste. Paper, in its essence, is my innate medium, imbued with a profound personal connection. From an early age, I instinctively collected and cherished various forms of paper, for it has always resonated with me. What distinguishes my work is the remarkable fact that paper originates from trees, while my creations draw inspiration from nature and strive to embody its essence. Subconsciously propelled by my deep-rooted affinity for the ocean, my fondest memories are intertwined with the idyllic summers spent with my siblings, delving into the depths of the Mediterranean, fervently searching for sea urchins and seashells. A close second to these cherished moments was embarking on woodland hikes. To this day, these two pursuits remain my paramount sources of joy and contentment.
