Created for an exhibition themed "Pink". In a move to forgo the gender link, I focused on two early associations with the color pink: structures of the human body and 13-16th century paintings featuring the Christ child dressed in the color. Many paintings of the time also featured gourds and almonds as symbols of resurrection. Grapes recall early correlations of the Roman god Bacchus with Jesus Christ, and the consumption of the Christ body, while pearls and shells reference purity and ascension. Alluding to symbols employed by Renaissance artists to invoke Christian folklore, the piece examines the purification and destruction of the physical form to release the spiritual essence. Media: gourd, latex, pompoms, blister pearls, badam pod, shell, beads, plastic grapes, plastic drops, wire and paper, polyester flower petals

email is sdtompkins at live.com IG is stacytompkinsart I have work available in every price point Two-dimensional work: Inspired by microscopy images, themes of spiritual energy and hidden knowledge, my work explores the invisible realms in which we are enveloped, but rarely acknowledge. Sculpture: My mixed media sculptures focus on the psyche, ritual and meaning-making. The works deconstruct the transcultural aspects of ritual, sacred tool/ ritual object evolution, and the role biology plays in the archetypal development of deities. The pieces raise questions surrounding the origins of belief and spiritual identity.
