ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The art of transformation The cusp of perfection and imperfection in the theme of the work of artist Nicolette Bénard. This is a theme one finds in her jewellery as well as in her latest project ‘Project B’, a series of wall objects in plexiglass. Barbie Beloved and detested by women of all ages. All that for sixty years already. Barbie, a doll with an idealistic view of a female shape, who with a change of clothes, in an instant, can become what it’s owner wants her to be: flight attendant, amazone, model,. For Nicolette, Barbie represents an illusion, a false reality: no woman can comply. Or maybe wants to comply. A Barbie does however, form the ideal object to re-shape and re-imagine. With a wink and a healthy dose of humour, Nicolette works on her Barbies and transforms them to.... yes, to what exactly ?
