ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Cutting Looks (part of the F * ck Patriarchy series) was part of my art installation for the art and design festival PROTO 2020 in Zwolle. The artwork was part of a series of 18 works of plaster in a natural wood frame. INlay is about the insides of packaging used to transport and protect products. These INlays are usually made of plastic or paper pulp. I have been fascinated by these products for a long time and a collection has emerged in many shapes and sizes. There is a kind of hidden (INvisible) aesthetics in it, a Form Follows Function principle. The INlays are often used only once and then disappear into apostasy and obscurity. In addition to the aesthetics, the inlays also have a “Readymade” quality. They are potential sculptures and architectural sculptures waiting for a new context. By filling the space in the INlays with plaster, the beauty becomes visible. The waste product becomes art, becomes a model of a building, a city. In addition to revealing the INtrinsic beauty of these INlays, a second act takes place: Combining different types of inlays in baking frames, creating a new story. (INvent, Collage & Readymade). INlay goes from the inside to the outside. From one-time to unlimited. From waste to art. René Wissink Atelier Argos Art
