Cyclades (Series) Sculpture

Back to my native country, France, from 2005 to 2009, I visited weekly Le Louvre. On a Sunday afternoon I spent a long time in the Greek Archaic section looking at the Cyclades sculptures. I had never connected with them before, finding them to hermetic, but this particular day I challenge myself to study them and let them echoed in me. I took some notes and tried to describe them first using words that will come to me, just to get familiar with the unfamiliar. I could not really understand the abstraction of it but I could connect to the light and the simplicity, a step away from its complexity. I discover a new notion of beauty. I felt transported, lifted from the ground. I reflected on it the following days. I started to draw Cycladic sculptures to connect closely to something I could not put words on it and to see what will come from it. After few days I started to draw figures from my imagination, inspire upon my new connection to Cycladic Art. Later I extended my research finding more inspiration in Greek and Roman art. "Cycladic Series" is a work in process, a reflection on Cycladic, Greek and Roman art
