About The Artwork
Part of a series of Goddess Flowers created for my exhibition ‘Vortex of the Huetopia’ in New York. Inspired by the idea of a magical, mythological garden with flowers for each goddess. Demeter is the Greek goddess of the harvest and the seasons. This is a hand-made sculpture encrusted with different varieties of glass and a smattering of 24 carat gold. The beaded stamens can be twisted around a finger or pen as desired. Demeter is published in my book ‘Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic’ (Schiffer Publishing USA). It will be sent in a custom plywood box with a signed copy of the book plus a certificate of authenticity and a certificate of registration on the NRAA (National Registry of Australian Artists).

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
