Discobolus Sculpture

I began work on this sculpture with a small sketch in foam concrete, making up the main movement of several blocks connected by pins. The monumental forms of the sculpture of the ancient Greek sculptor Miron inspired me to this creative search. I wanted to show a powerful, intense movement in a more modern reading, summarizing the details to concise and monumental forms. The work was successful, and I decided to increase it in clay, making it even more solid, consisting of one block. After a long search and several months of work, I realized that I had come to a certain end and made gypsum castings, but this was not the final result. Then there was a long work in stone, most of which I did by my hands, without using a power tool. Working with living, natural material is always a great joy. My plaster cast stood nearby, but I did not set out to make an exact copy. Finishing work, I polished some fragments but left the chopped, living sections. Polishing showed beautiful gray veins on the stone, and the chopped surface created a contrast with them. The tension before the throw, the concentration of the athlete who froze like a bow, the dynamic static is the state of mind and body in their unity that I tried to convey. I use grey and white marble for this work, and the biggest part of the work is done by boasters. I also used a grinder tool. This work is hand-built and totally unique. The work is suitable for interior and exterior locations. Work will be sent in a wooden box, carefully packed. Certificate of authenticity included.
