#3013 Dogwood flowers Sculpture

I am fortunate enough to live in an area of East Texas where the dogwoods are plentiful in the early spring. They are one of the first ornamental trees to bloom. Sometimes the blooms come out before other trees leaf and it looks like snowflakes suspended in midair among the wooded landscape. This is a sculpture of a group of dogwood flowers that had recently opened. Their blooms are large as they were on the tree. The sculpture is made out of 9 gauge (about 4 mm diameter) low carbon steel wire that I bend by hand and weld. The sculpture is then powder coated gloss black with a weather resistant material. It is easily installed inside or outside on permanent anchors according to instructions I provide. The piece is signed with a thinner wire. I make wire wall murals for public, commercial, and residential locations. The wire pieces are the final step in a simplification process that starts with a photograph or group of photographs. I make and remake a digital line drawing to emphasize only the essence of the subject, then, like the poet who reviews every word, I re-examine every turn and curve as I bend the wire into a sculpture. The final installation, a solid line in space in front of a moving shadow, has scale enough to suit a large wall without dominating the room. My work has been purchased by collectors from all over the world.
