My inspiration for The Ears of Zion series comes from the geologic features found in Zion National Park, Utah. Many of the works resemble ears, birds, butterflies, flowers, or caves. Each piece is unique and can be displayed alone or in multiple groupings mounted in a vertical or horizontal line. They play very well off one another. This body of work is created from precut, repurposed blocks of wood that were once part of a stage, set up at, "Opportunity Green" (An environmental business conference held annually in Los Angeles California). They are dynamically and spontaneously sculpted using a large handheld industrial drill that was fitted with hole coring bits. Each piece is heavily refined. The interior portions are stained while the surface is left dull. A coating of sand and acrylic gel coat the sides creating laser thin lines.
