About The Artwork

‘El pajarraco’ (large bird of unknown type) is a work of art which is a fusion of two cultures; Latin American and European. It is inspired by artworks from both continents, the totems created by indigenous peoples in Latin America and the use of collage and sculptures made from recycled everyday objects, which was started by European artists like Picasso. ‘El pajarraco’ represents the natural world which surrounds us and the transcendent nature of migration – in this case not only of birds but also human beings, who nowadays move without many apparent limits. At the same time the artwork also draws attention to humanities excessive use of materials which results in the contamination of the planet, something which ironically travels without limits as a result of our migration from one continent to another. The artwork was recently exhibited at the Brazilian Embassy in London, where it had been shortlisted for the VIA arts prize - a prestigious competition organised by the Latin American Embassies in London.

I was born and raised in Yorkshire. I studied Visual Communication at the Glasgow School of Art. I have travelled extensively and have visited the most part of Europe, parts of Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, thus affording me the opportunity to further develop my passion for observation and also to absorb elements of other cultures. I lived in Italy for several years and that experience allowed me to immerse myself in the rich artistic and architectural heritage of the country thus pushing and indeed challenging many of my conceptions and perceptions of art, and ultimately teaching me that the greatest value in any opera of art is to be found in the details. It is these details which I always seek to present in new or surprising ways and I hope that I am able to draw the viewers attention to areas he/she would not normally look and consider familiar objects in unusual ways.
