I am a wife, mother of one, and grandmother of 3. I was born in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up after age 10 in North Mississippi. Education includes high school and some college and specific studies but none associated with art in the least. I worked 37 years in manufacturing and customer service. I found my love for art through other pottery artists in our area and along my travels. I collected other's works, studying them and picturing what actually may have gone into making it. Then I decided to give it a try. I got my studio put together while still working, by this time working many more than full time hours, taking lessons wasn't an option. I'd just learn on my own! What could go wrong, right? I have a few answers to that question but I'll just move along. 5 years later I had gotten, in most cases, fairly confident in the making, firing and glazing. Just as i was getting comfortable i noticed i was also kind of bored with bowls, platters, cups, etc. One day I threw a lump of clay on the wheel and was running it through my hands. Holding a little too tight, I guess, it twisted. I looked at it and what I saw was a beautiful angel twirling in dance. Not even aware I was watching, she was bent backwards and lost in her dance. I added wings that also bent and twisted to the dance. That was the first. Most of my pieces include faces. I've always thought there's no right and wrong in art. Some I like, others not so much, but there's no wrong. I hope you enjoy my pieces as much as I did making them.
