Inspired heavily by Umberto Boccioni's Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, the work was heavily influenced by the Futurists. Their shared love of heighten curvilinear and biomorphic shapes encouraged a move towards accentuated aerodynamic forms. Having initially works with hand tools only, the artist was limited to relief work which restricted the scope of production. With the development and training in new tools, the English Rose Abstraction was the first move towards a more holistic three dimensional form. Consciously working with 1inch tools thus creating marks of a similar width is designed to stimulate the desire to touch and physically interact with the pieces. Interaction of tactile materials and shapes can often be ignored as ergonomics which often forces the viewer to require and appreciate function over form. This alludes to the opposite. There is not ergonomic function as such, only the aesthetic beauty. The use of rare and precious Acacia was fortuitous as the branch from which the piece came had broken and fallen as a result of severe weather. This is a truly unique piece and will part of a very limited run of Acaia works available.
