Sculpture, 3D Sculpting on Other
Size: 51 W x 95 H x 43 D in
Ships in a Crate
This large sculpture was inspired by the theoretical future scenario known as the technological singularity, and depicts an artistic interpretation of a manifested artificial super-intelligence which has been created by humanity in our own image. In this scenario, this new being has managed to surpass and replace us. The tool it is holding, made of black obsidian, represents the first known tool humanity crafted (the Oldowan tool) that kick-started our evolution and technological progress, and which has now been taken from us for the purpose of such an A.I to begin it's own evolution. The sculpture is hand-crafted entirely out of medical grade silicone tubing. I chose this material as it had a cloudy translucency that reflects on the intangibility of such a scenario getting out of our hands. Furthermore, silicone is a core component of computers, including A.I technology. Within the body is a thin steel skeleton, which is painted white. In its head there is a clear PLA 3D-printed brain, which has a cold light LED light-bulb inside it, this can be turned on and off with a switch close to the feet. I included this as I wanted the brain (intelligence) to be distinct in the sculpture while also blending in with the tubing when not glowing. Intertwined in the body are fiber optics, which can also be turned on and off with a remote, and have numerous options for colors and modes. The sculpture stands on a wooden base, painted white. It can be assembled and disassembled from the base with screws on its feet.
