Evolution or Devolution? Sculpture

A parody of Zallinger's ¨March of Progress¨ how the species have evolved over 25 million years. Last on the right: the latest modern human with a 2 meter social distance in a survival Covid -19 circumstance. In February 2020, the corona virus emerged in our lives, and our shopping habits changed. In state of panic we all run to the supermarket in the search of survival products following the empty shelves as a sign of necessity. Toilet paper was sold en masse, but millions more bottles of wine were also uncorked. That’s how we survive lockdowns? Is this evolution or devolution? Devolution, de-evolution, or backward evolution is the notion that species can revert to supposedly more primitive forms over time. Although the theory of Devolution is based on the presumption of orthogenesis we are also degenerating from our ¨the new normality¨ habits. Did the neanderthals drink alcohol and wipe their bottoms with 3 ply or extra soft rolls? History proves they used stones, corn cobs and water and that although fermented fruits always existed they couldn’t afford to get drunk, imagine climbing trees with a mask under the effects of alcohol?
