Creatures from the sea have had an hypnotic influence on me since a child. Fish 1 “ Swimming Freestyle “, is a part of a body of work that I began many years ago and still return to when I need uplifting, as creating these works give me inner warmth and belief that all is well. Carved from fossilized wood with old implements for it’s fins and tail, decorated with color and light. Fish 1 “ Swimming Freestyle “, is a wall piece and 52" inches / 132 centimetres in length. As with most works, I spend many years returning to the pieces, until they are ready for a new home. I believe that in my darkest moments, creating my fish has guided me to the uplands of life, so I owe them, big time ! This work needs to be pieced together, so postage is possible, this is a simple procedure The wood in this work is fossilized wood, that has been buried in peat for 8-10 thousand years and is naturally black in color, it has special qualities that comes with age, I collected the wood from the fields when it became visible during ploughing, this medium is very hard to find due to its rarity I return to this medium from time to time, when I find new pieces of wood
