Flow Sculpture

THE VESSEL AS ONE With a love of nature and an interest in human behavior, Ms. Kravitz has created a new body of work entitled THE VESSEL AS ONE. Raw materials, found objects and translucent papers are transformed into delicate and stately paper and bronze containers. Unrefined and imperfect objects, twigs and bits of bark are used to push through brittle and wrinkled papers to convey change in nature and in ourselves. One's emotions, memories, thoughts, hardships, dreams are all encapsulated in and around these vessels as a connection to oneself and the outside world. The viewer is engaged by small crevices, dark and light areas, organic shapes, voluminous inner spaces, and the apparent fragility of these forms. The creations explore positive and negative space through form and texture, and look at existing boundaries created by the outer skin of the forms. The vessels reflect nature’s building blocks-the deconstructs and reconstructs in the natural world. The physical body like the sculptures, acts as a receptacle of dreams, memories, and emotions. A practicing artist for 40 years, Ms. Kravitz began her love of nature in early childhood. She began collecting rocks and sticks in her baby doll carriage and then used them to build cities between tree roots.
